Job Description
A/C and Heating technicians service and install air conditioning systems,
heating systems and refrigeration equipment. They may work on electric
motors, compressors, condensers, evaporators, heat pumps,. and a variety
of other equipment.
Working Conditions
Technicians work in a variety of different working conditions in all types
of weather. They may work in homes, offices, factories, etc. The typical
work work is 40 hours per week but technicians may be required to work
overtime during peak buy seasons.
Income Potential
The average hourly wage for an Air Conditioning & Heating Contractor is
$14 to $15 an hour. Many technicians are self employed and their income
potential is dramatically higher.
Career Outlook
The job outlook for A/C and Heating Contractors is good. Employment
opportunities are expected to grow as fast as normal.
Training
Some A/C and Heating technicians learn through on the job training but
most technicians are educated in trade schools. Due to the complexity of
modern A/C systems these schools can last anywhere from 6 months to 2
