  Air Conditioning Maintenance

Maintaining Your Air Conditioning System

The key to having a smooth running efficient air conditioning system is regular maintenance. Having an annual inspection of your system will catch potentially expensive problems early and will help give you years of trouble free air conditioning. So be sure to schedule a maintenance check of your ac unit before the beginning of summer.

Find a HVAC Service

What will they check?
The air conditioning service should include the following things. They should check the condensing unit coils, the compressor, the belts, operating pressures, operating temperature and Freon level. They should also oil the fan motors if necessary.

How much will it cost?
It is much cheaper over the long run to pay for maintenance rather than replace expensive parts later or pay higher energy bills  because of an inefficient system. Most AC companies run service specials at the beginning of the summer cooling season. Keep an eye out for a sale price.

What can you do?
Keep air filters clean. A blocked air filter makes your unit work harder to keep your home cool. Clean or replace them every month.
Avoid turning the unit off completely when you leave the house in the summer. When you get back home the unit would have to run for hours non stop to cool your home. Instead turn it up 5 or 10 degrees when you leave.
Hose off your outside compressor often to keep it free of dirt and leaves.
