Fence Repair & Installation Tips
At least once a year you should check your
fence for damage. Check for loose nails, rotted wood, termite damage and
loose boards. Catching damage early and having it fixed can save you money
in the long run.
Cedar fences are naturally resistant to rot
and insects. It is also less likely to warp than other woods and accepts
stains better. It is however more expensive than other types of wood
fencing.
Protect your fence from the elements by
staining or sealing it. Wood left to the elements will turn gray, crack
and rot. Staining or sealing your wood fence will help extend the life and
beauty of your fence.
If a low maintenance fence appeals to you,
consider a vinyl fence. They will never rot, warp, splinter or require
painting or staining. They are available in a large variety of colors and
styles. Vinyl fences may cost a little more than a conventional wood
fence, but they will save you money with their long life and low
maintenance costs.
Before staining your fence, check the weather
forecast. There should be no chance of rain for 24 to 48 hours for best
results. This will give the stain and/or sealer time to fully cure.
